Describe Yourself:My name is David Loewenstein. I obtained my PhD in Clinical Psychology, am board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology and am a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Most importantly, I am a proud father. I am the author of, "For the Love of Rachel: A Father's Story" about my olders daughter born 4 months early at 18 ounces and her incredible and inspirational journey during 9 months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) (where her weight fell to 14 ounces and her case was seen as hopeless. It is also the story of an exciting voyage to China to bring younger sister Amy home and how these experiences forever transformed me as a husband, father, therapist and scientist. My hope is that this book will touch all of those who have ever loved a child or has faced challenges in life that at times seemed bigger than themselves. For the Love of Rachel: A Father's Story is available on Amazon.com. My area of research is in the study of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease and related brain disorders and he has over 100 published articles and papers in the field. My research team has developed instruments for both the early detection and cognitive treatment for neurodegenerative brain disorders in older adults.

Linda G., Mar 3, 2008, 9:29AM ESTI have posted a reveiw of For the Love of Rachel. I must also thank you for the book. I cried several time, but not froms adness, but from deep understanding. My family's journey has been very similar to yours. My son Noah was born with a serious heart defect has faced three heart surgeries, and two strokes. Today, much like Rachel, he is a joy. He has overcome so much with a bright attitude and belief that he can do anything everyone else can do, and maybe even better. Today he is 12 years-old and we face the teenage years with some concern. It is a tough time for all kids, but for kids with physical andl earning disabilities is presents even greater challenges. For us the most frustrating part is getting the schools to recognize Noah as intellegnt and accept he needs to learn differently from his peers. Too often he is treated as if he is incapable of learning. As a neuropsychologist, I am sure this is something you have seen before.
What was probably most remarkable to me is that we also have an adopted child from another country and that our advanced age almost elminated us from adopting from overseas.
Thank you again, and enjoy each day with your children. When I tuck my son in at night, I am always thankful for the day we have shared.

Linda G., Feb 25, 2008, 4:57PM ESTI would love to read your book. I have one son who is adopted from Chile and a biological son that was born with a serious congenital heart defect. My biological son has faced far too many medical hurdles for me to remember, but I am thankful for both my boys and the fact that they have each other.

Lydia (part of the solution) Shelley, Dec 29, 2007, 9:32AM ESTI forgot to ping you? Shame on me.
I loved your book and the only reason I didn't review it yet was that I did not want to do a rush job during the hustle/bustle of the holidays. It's coming!

Jamie B., Dec 17, 2007, 12:20PM ESTHi David, thanks for the invite. I believe I saw a review of your book on here when I first started lurking around last week. I didn't realize we were practically neighbors! The couple of your posts I've read have been very touching. I'm sure the book is a winner! Good to meet you.
